Childhood obesity an inflammation in your child’s body

Childhood obesity carries with it chronic-low grade inflammation. If an overweight or obese child does not stop gaining weight or lose weight the side effects start to occur. The side effects of childhood obesity have direct affect on the child’s organs and internal structures. There are a lot of studies that have linked chronic or long-term inflammation to heart disease. Your child’s diet is a big component of controlling and minimizing inflammation.

Look at the suggestions below to help you purchase high quality foods you serve your child to eat.

-3-4 grams fiber per serving

-Fresh vegetables (i.e. dark green leafy vegetables, kale, celery, Roman lettuce)

-Foods with Omega 3 Fats (i.e. walnuts, salmon, mackerel, halibut, tuna)

-Use spices (i.e. Turmeric, curry, cinnamon, basil, cloves, oregano, thyme)

-Use Olive oil NOT vegetable, corn, safflower, or soybean oils – WHY – these oils contain Omega 6 fatty acid and cause an imbalance of our Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio, 3:1 is what we strive for.

-Eat red meat NO more than twice weekly -2oz-4oz – WHY- Red meat contains carnitine and that is broken down into a chemical called TMAO that has been linked to increased plaque build up in the arteries.

-Avoid foods that list the words enriched white or wheat flour, trans fats, high fructose corn syrup listed 1st or 2nd on the Nutrition Facts Label

– Fresh fruits- they have high levels of antioxidants, phyto chemicals and nutrients that fight the inflammation process.

Berries contain high levels of antioxidants and the lowest amount of sugar FRUITS: choose fresh and frozen Berries as your fruit most often because they have the least amount of sugar per serving and the highest level of antioxidants, next choose Melons followed by Citrus fruits and then the more denser fruits such as: Apples, Bananas, and Pears.

Stay Away from Fruit Juice, use Dried fruit with Caution.
